Bigger Monkeys

My boy is a year and a week and a day!

That Monkey-child keeps growing. In an amazing burst of "I'm not a hobbit, even if you are, Mum" he's now 30 inches tall... that is, half my height (well, he needs another eighth to quarter inch or so, but who's counting?). He's also 20 pounds 14 ounces, and his head is 20 inches around. Aside from his current small virus (which has given him clingi-crankies, a fever, and a small rash), he's in excellent health. (All this per his Doc; we had the year check up yesterday).

He's into putting things in and taking them out (maybe I should call him Eeyore?), especially when it comes to the recycling bins. He eats mostly what we do, and tends to eat light in the morning, with a bigger appetite as the day goes on, most likely because he nurses off and on from 3ish am (sigh), especially around 6 (breakfast!). He's got some signs and some proto-words, though they're not invariably mapped to the concepts (R is sometimes "Baba" and sometimes "Dada"). The only signs that're really consistent are still "hat" and "that thing over there", though bird, fan, please (generic "will you get that for me") might be coming along. "Bah" seems to be a generic word for "thing that moves that isn't Mama ("Amma")" Recently he seems interested in being told the names of things, but I'm not totally sure of that.

He cruises like anything--legs, chairs, couches--and climbs stairs. We have a lot of childproofing still to do, but we did just get a really cool chunk of fencing for around the woodstove. (My friends the pediatrician and boatbuilder have the same one, which is how we knew of it). Company's called Kidco. It's a ten-foot length, with a sweet gate, and free stands if folded properly, easily folds at the joints if you pull up and down on the right pieces and locks in place even more easily. I might have to get some more for the upstairs landing and the studio (if we can get the damn rooms finished... more finished anyway...)

Whee! 20 in huh....hmmm....well, I just finished R.'s hat, and I have two done for the monkey, except for the damn lining, that is continually fighting me, but the smaller one may need to go to Amelia instead (Solon's daughter), we can try it on and see. I also just got a new hat book with great patterns from Carrie and so I see many more in the monkey's future if he is willing. You unfortunately are suffering from a picky hat, the one for R. was originally supposed to be yours, but I dont' like the colors for you, but they are perfect for R, so that hat ran away, and I started another one for you on Tues., and THOSE colors are also now screaming that they are actually for Zoya's husband, so I've set that hat part aside for him and started yet another one for you, using wool I bought for Abby because it seems much more fitting for you and her, she will have to get one with very similar colors, so you may still get a hat before May :D

*laughing!!* I have (in a manner of speaking, for strange definitions of "have") the Hat the Just Won't Be! *giggle*

At least mine and R's heads aren't growing (ASFAIK) so this winter, next, it's all good.

I have a simple hat pattern from Desiree that has a turkish-esque border design. Not that I dare also resume knitting, myself.

Half your height?? Wow! Those are some cool words, too... sounds like they're really starting to flow. :)

Yep, half, just suggesting again to me that I am not precisely tall.

Heh. Of course, we knew that.
